He received a Pushcart Prize in 2009, and won the May Swenson Poetry Award in 2006 for <em>Haywire<\/em> (Utah State University Press). His poems are heard frequently on Garrison Keillor\u2019s <em>The Writer\u2019s Almanac, <\/em>and he has appeared as a guest on<em> A Prairie Home Companion<\/em>. He teaches at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We said last year in our review of George Bilgere&#8217;s poetry that, &#8220;It\u2019s the self-appraisal and introspection that not everyone does, but that everyone should strive for. Dead honest directness allows Bilgere into your head, and he stays, irking you with plain-faced jokes that ring of truth.&#8221; The same could be said for these poems, in that they too contain &#8220;booby traps of meaning for the reader,&#8221;  in addition to just being rather enjoyable to read aloud.
