
{"id":4902,"date":"2012-12-14T10:18:00","date_gmt":"2012-12-14T15:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gadflyonline.com\/home\/?p=4902"},"modified":"2013-01-09T09:54:30","modified_gmt":"2013-01-09T14:54:30","slug":"poems-by-jonas-sidell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gadflyonline.com\/home\/index.php\/poems-by-jonas-sidell\/","title":{"rendered":"Poems by Jonas Sidell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gadflyonline.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/JWW-Gadfly.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4906\" title=\"JWW Gadfly\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gadflyonline.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/JWW-Gadfly.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"519\" height=\"651\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t Let Me Break Down<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let me slip<\/p>\n<p>into some category<\/p>\n<p>of grace and wonder, like tilted rain.\u00a0 Give me something<\/p>\n<p>I can bleed upon! an honest streak<\/p>\n<p>over laminated grain. . .\u00a0 Each week<\/p>\n<p>undresses me: \u2018til I\u2019m meaningless,<\/p>\n<p>as a blue moon.\u00a0 So fucking lonely.\u00a0 A good CD player<\/p>\n<p>and a bad transmission, man; find me a woman<\/p>\n<p>I could be in the dark with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mercy Bath<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Delight<\/p>\n<p>in the body<\/p>\n<p>and mind, and the possibilities<\/p>\n<p>that surround<\/p>\n<p>love<\/p>\n<p>any given time, any<\/p>\n<p>age.\u00a0 It\u2019s being able \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to look<\/p>\n<p>at the delectable<\/p>\n<p>moment<\/p>\n<p>as something to devour.\u00a0 These justifications,<\/p>\n<p>awkward movements,<\/p>\n<p>praying for a little grace, some room<\/p>\n<p>to fail.\u00a0 The body needs this, the mind<\/p>\n<p>needs this \u2013 we are here, despite<\/p>\n<p>ourselves, cutting time<\/p>\n<p>off the distance<\/p>\n<p>to <em>never<\/em>, hoisting our eyes, briefly,<\/p>\n<p>back from oblivion.\u00a0 When that spray of expression<\/p>\n<p>hits, man.\u00a0 Ahhh. . . ain\u2019t that the best! each week\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>end I bury myself in beer, always somehow for her<\/p>\n<p>and me, basking<\/p>\n<p>in the glory,<\/p>\n<p>indulging our heartscape; dig in<\/p>\n<p>to the oncoming week, now,<\/p>\n<p>like it\u2019s the only thing that matters, which of course<\/p>\n<p>it is.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jonas Kyle-Sidell is an adjunct English teacher at CCBC Catonsville.\u00a0 He is currently seeking book publishment for his book, \u201cOutta Time, in Love,\u201d a collection of these collage-like poems.\u00a0 He\u2019s previously had poems published in the Los Angeles Review, Main Street Rag, Gargoyle, Pearl, Haight Ashbury Literary Journal, Smile Hon! But what does the future hold?
