something to guide us, something to lead us back home.\u201d\u00a0 She pressed her hand against the cold, clear glass window.\u00a0 \u201cI want to go home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t go home.\u201d\u00a0 He slumped back against the wall, stretching his legs out before him.\u00a0 \u201cThe shock wave knocked us here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut where is here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe window.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been looking out the window.\u00a0 The stars are too damn far away, so far away that their light is like a grain of sand.\u00a0 We\u2019re lost, and nobody is coming to look for us.\u00a0 Doesn\u2019t that scare you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI stopped being scared when the rest of the ship gave way.\u00a0 Nobody is going to come and look for us because nobody knows that we survived.\u00a0 It\u2019s just a matter of time, and then we too will die.\u201d\u00a0 He glanced down at the book in his hands.\u00a0 \u201cEverything has a beginning, and everything has an end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt can\u2019t end like this.\u00a0 It can\u2019t end like this for us.\u00a0 It\u2019s not fair!\u201d\u00a0 She slammed her hand against the window.\u00a0 \u201cWe should have died with the rest of the crew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, we were in here when it happened.\u00a0 We\u2019re lucky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLucky?\u201d\u00a0 She spun toward him.\u00a0 \u201cHow are we so damn lucky?\u00a0 They died quick.\u00a0 We\u2019re dying slow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook out the window.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cForget the damn window!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook!\u201d\u00a0 Now, he rose to his feet with his book still in hand.\u00a0 \u201cWe get to see something that nobody ever gets to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what\u2019s that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe edge of the universe.\u201d\u00a0 He stood beside her.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s like a black ocean with rocks drifting along its surface, and we drift with it.\u00a0 Or if we push, we can fall over the edge, and then we won\u2019t be playing the waiting game any longer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been days, weeks.\u201d\u00a0 She slowly touched his hand.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m tired of waiting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if we push, we\u2019ll meet our end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen, let\u2019s meet our end instead of killing time.\u201d\u00a0 His grip tightened over hers.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m scared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know,\u201d he whispered.\u00a0 \u201cAre you sure?\u201d\u00a0 She nodded.\u00a0 \u201cI can fire up the rockets once more, but that\u2019s it.\u00a0 No more energy.\u00a0 No more life support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen, that\u2019s it.\u201d\u00a0 She glanced down at the book in his hands.\u00a0 \u201c<i>A Brief History of Time <\/i>by Stephen W.
