
{"id":6589,"date":"2013-12-20T15:47:36","date_gmt":"2013-12-20T20:47:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gadflyonline.com\/home\/?p=6589"},"modified":"2013-12-20T15:48:28","modified_gmt":"2013-12-20T20:48:28","slug":"a-christmas-snow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gadflyonline.com\/home\/index.php\/a-christmas-snow\/","title":{"rendered":"A Christmas Snow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gadflyonline.com\/home\/index.php\/a-christmas-snow\/snow_585x585\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6590\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6590\" alt=\"SNOW_585x585\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gadflyonline.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/SNOW_585x585.jpg\" width=\"585\" height=\"585\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gadflyonline.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/SNOW_585x585.jpg 585w, http:\/\/gadflyonline.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/SNOW_585x585-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/gadflyonline.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/SNOW_585x585-580x580.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">The white ruffled snowflakes fell by the millions covering the browning grass that would have been blowing free.\u00a0 The snow had been falling for the last week.\u00a0\u00a0 It started about noon last Saturday.\u00a0 Just in time for Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>Bundled in his clothes, Charles was sure not to let one molecule of air drift through to a minute portion of his skin.\u00a0 Charles walked this way Monday through Friday on school days.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t particularly like school, but sickness of any kind meant making up work.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t want that.<\/p>\n<p>The wind was blowing the snow making drifts as high as the fences around the farm.\u00a0 Charles knew he had to hurry before the snow became too deep to wade.\u00a0 The familiar path no longer led the way home, but he knew it well enough without going astray too far.<\/p>\n<p>He was fairly close to home he thought, searching the horizon for the rather large brown house he called home.\u00a0 The Christmas lights on the front porch would lead him home and he was certain father would worry if he was late, and he didn\u2019t want to worry father.<\/p>\n<p>Charles knew now that he was a bit late but not too much.\u00a0 He could make it by hurrying.\u00a0 He became tired and stopped to gaze forward, but nothing before his eyes but snow.\u00a0 He felt strange for he recognized nothing of the old path.\u00a0 His mind filled with the question, \u201cAm I lost?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was when Charles heard a crying voice some distance before him.\u00a0 Who could it be?\u00a0 Maybe someone searching for him, thinking he was lost.<\/p>\n<p>He ran steadily until he came upon a body half covered with snow lying as a fallen bird in his yard.\u00a0 The body was a young girl who cried, then screamed \u201cI\u2019m freezing, please help me!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Charles\u2019 eyes felt heavy and he bent slowly forward and touched her brow, brushing the snow from it.\u00a0 She smiled slowly as her parched lips closed to hide herself from within.<\/p>\n<p>Charles dropped to his knees and covered her body with his, stopping the escaping heat from her body.<\/p>\n<p>She curled up and gave a warm sigh of relief.\u00a0 She was warm once again.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">******<\/p>\n<p>They searched for Charles for 5 days but no trace, so they waited for the snow to melt.\u00a0 The snow melted about 2 days later and Charles\u2019 body was found lying on the old path, frozen solid.\u00a0 His father said Charles must have gotten lost and so tired he collapsed and froze to death.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The white ruffled snowflakes fell by the millions covering the browning grass that would have been blowing free.
