We hold these bayous close to hearts,<\/p>\n

Between chicken wire these screams echo,<\/p>\n

Held trapped blue jays,<\/p>\n

Swan of evil,<\/p>\n

Stripping away a soul guarded,<\/p>\n

Leaving behind tears and shattered promises,<\/p>\n

Hollowing out unholy, vows forsaken,<\/p>\n

Inhaling until fire singes flesh,<\/p>\n

Allowing demons to escape with every exhaled breath,<\/p>\n

Popping brain cells to diminish memories,<\/p>\n

Messages of abjection,<\/p>\n

Pain hiding under Kohl and tanning oils,<\/p>\n

Catching the knowledge that our bridges are soaked in gasoline,<\/p>\n

Setting smoke into this night of utter peril,<\/p>\n

Yelling into bathroom mirrors,<\/p>\n

Reflections showing abused spirit,<\/p>\n

Fear of a touch that could bare it all,<\/p>\n

Reveal secrets just a tongue’s tip away,<\/p>\n

I do not know the taste of truth upon my lying lips.<\/p>\n

Dying feels so fucking good,<\/p>\n

Numb for days,<\/p>\n

Unfazed from thoughts of waves to come,<\/p>\n

Undone love<\/p>\n

Renounced allies,<\/p>\n

Left to combat sorrow with a bag of false euphoria.<\/p>\n

Injecting violence with a syringe of hate,<\/p>\n

Filters littering every corner,<\/p>\n

Smoke rings billowing from mouths rendered mute,<\/p>\n

Silent plea for solace,<\/p>\n

No bolt can be snapped,<\/p>\n

No dream to stop a nightmare,<\/p>\n

Tied to a world where skies play premonitions like a movie theater,<\/p>\n

Unchain rage, I have no reason,<\/p>\n

Exhausted from an internal battle,<\/p>\n

Coming out,<\/p>\n

A broken and tortured nothing.<\/p>\n

New Ground<\/strong><\/p>\n

You spoke like<\/p>\n

a lost boy<\/p>\n

Found by a lonely wicked queen.<\/p>\n

and she sang you<\/p>\n

Right to bed<\/p>\n

Didn’t she?<\/p>\n

Held willingly in her gaze,<\/p>\n

I faded.<\/p>\n

My heart whispering against your ear became<\/p>\n

an ever quieting thud-thud…<\/p>\n

Drowned in melodies<\/p>\n

not half as meaningful<\/p>\n

As Mine.<\/p>\n

Telling me<\/p>\n

Her name.<\/p>\n

The shade of her eyes<\/p>\n

Flirting with the red, brown, yellow foliage.<\/p>\n

And your marble green.<\/p>\n

Your voice<\/p>\n

was echoing my defeat.<\/p>\n

Spring cleaned me out.<\/p>\n

Packed my bags,<\/p>\n

slipped shoes upon my feet.<\/p>\n

To find grace in another horizon.<\/p>\n

So I could watch your sunsets<\/p>\n

Through reproachful scrutiny.<\/p>\n

Gaining strength from worn soles<\/p>\n

A constant circle<\/p>\n

Mapped out<\/p>\n

Redundant trees.<\/p>\n

Until the summer heat<\/p>\n

Sweated a new trail<\/p>\n

beneath last year’s leaves.<\/p>\n

Soft for the feet to rest.<\/p>\n
