Alarm Set

I came home yesterday

and found the front door left unlocked.

It was strange.

We were always careful.

Yet, the door was unlocked.

Did someone try to come in?

If the alarm were not set,

would they have,

and what would they take?

It’s a reality I’m grateful

not to come home to,

but the thought is now there.

And the police flashed their pretty lights

across the street.

Was someone having their fun today,

and were they finally caught?

Or would I wake up

in the middle of night,

worrying about finding someone here

invading my home?
