I am from baking sheets
From red dirt that stains
And Barbancourt
I am from humid heat that weighs down the skin
I am from mangoes sweet as honey
rhum of sugarcanes
I am from telling stories in the night
Put downs in the sunlight
From Jacques up the docks of Cap-Haitien
To Voltaire down south in mountains
And Lamberts who sidestepped
Into Bazelais
I am from making money
Only to see it go
Loving too much but
Not knowing how to show it
From Terra Rouge
And deep in the woods
From slaves chains
To gold chains
I am from this and more
I am from this and less

Jacques Dudre was born on the island of Hispaniola. He and his family moved to the U.S. in the early nineties where he fell in love with television, mostly cartoons, a love of which he has not grown out of nor ever will. He is currently pursing a degree in science with the hope of earning a PhD in Psychology while also pursuing his other love of being an artist. If neither of these dreams come true, he hopes to have some fun before realty settles in.
